groovier (imo-you can drown in some of these grooves) than the follow up more hardcore 'the road less traveled'
this one has always been my fave, but both are rockin.
its easy to label this as 'hardcore', which it is, but its more than that.
you can definitely feel some early rap-core influence and metal.
i've always been a weirdo about vocals...luckily i was quite pleased with these here; gruff, loud, but not just shouting.

imho, this comes nowhere near the excellence of the first "helpless amongst friends (1994)" compilation. Here there is not as much diversity of styles and less shining moments.
as hardcore isn't one of my favorite genres maybe i'm just missing something here as many of the tracks seems just 'okay', though some are very good indeed.

i was quite lucky to come by a copy of this. it is unbelievably rare.
it was stupid hard to find shortly after it was released.
came in a heavy cardboard printed sleeve with a gold and black spraypainted cd.
some of these tracks are exclusive to this compilation, others are alternate mixes or tracks currently unavailable.
a strange mix of artists from various labels and genres, but overall its pretty gravy.

fantastic hardcore, punk and post-hardcore compilation cd.
clay, mr. bishop's fist, crawlspace(later everdown), the blamed, n.i.v., and several other bands here lay down some really great unforgettable tracks. its definitely harder to find the weak songs here as opposed to the solid ones, which is often the case with compilations.
the 12 panel artwork in the cd contained many beautiful paintings that i wish i had hanging on my walls, its unfortunate that i can't find hi res images of them on the web.

eightball cholos - "satan's whore" (1996 morphine records)

from the ashes of 80's thrash metal band The Warning, came the seemingly short-lived Eightball Cholos. (apparently they also had an album late in the first decade of the 2000's)
this sample heavy cd always struck me as strange. i guess that shouldn't be that unexpected from a band fronted by a cat named 'Burrito".
two man thrash band with an odd sound and a definite experimental punk edge, the militant outsider christian agenda,some 90's industrial metal touches, the imagery and good but 'out of no where' guitar solos...
the construction of this thing still seems odd now as i listen to it over a decade later.  came with some stickers, which are great if your car seems too bare, of course they're also a great thing when propaganda is the name of the game.   anyway, here you go folks ...have a weird 70 minutes.
